The beginning

When you are after a dream, you are always limited by reality.

Is the Rx-7 my all time favourite car? No. Can I afford my all time favourite car? No. So, back to reality. Reality tells me I love sports cars. I love the feelings they provide me. Just listening to an engine revving up, creates a strange tingling down my spine. I get excited. I might even gigle at some point. Feeling the g's when accelerating hard, or when cornering and the limits of grip start to be really tested, gives me the adrenaline rush that I love so much, and that only a few things in life manage to.

Reality also tells me that I am not a rich guy. Never was. Probably never will be. Don't care actually... But it limited my choices. I wanted a small, light, rear wheel drive sports car. I bought an mx-5! 7000€ of fun that I still love. But has a few limitations. First it's power. Mine has a non-tuned 1.6 litre engine, good for about 120hp. At least it's light. Little more than 1000kg make it extremelly agile. Solution number one would be to tune it up. I will do it. I am not intending to sell it. But for now I figured I needed a reliable car, while I am messing around with something else. Second it's looks. If I here another comment about how much of a girly car it is, I will kill him. Some nice hardcore outside modding would help, but I am actually incline to leave it as inconspicuous as possible, so I can  have a few laughs when I get a chance.

So I decided I wanted something a little more powerfull, a little more manly and a little more fun. And cheap. The shortlist was really short. Especially because there was one little car that I really liked and filled all the requirements. The 3rd generation rotary sports 7 madness from Mazda. A 260hp, 1200kg, rwd gorgeous coupe in stock form, the rx-7 is one of the most tuneable cars around, although one of the more challengings to keep working in good condition. Exactly the kind of challenge I was looking for.

Now it was time to go online and look for a good specimen. Being in Cyprus at the moment, the best solution was the obvious japan import. So I used one of the online exporting car services and searched around for a few months until I found what I was looking for. On the process I was unlucky to lose a couple of deals because of either being a little bit undicided or simply because of bad timing.

Finally dicided on a 1994 type rz, with 130k km on the clock. Ready for an engine rebuild probably. But it has a lot of things I want: all the reliability mods, a fuel computer, all the exhaust work done and is in perfect condition outside and inside. So the idea is to run it untill the engine dies on me and then go for a full rebuild. I would guess is probably pulling around 300hp right now and after the rebuild I can take it to 350 keeping it as reliable as possible. With its lighter weight spec it should be fast enough...

So here we are. On the beginnig of a journey that will talk about my relationship with this car. Hopefully it will be a great one. Full of epic moments to blog about. Enjoy the trip!
